INDIANAPOLIS — The Ravens received seven grades of at least an A-minus and no grades lower than a B-minus in the NFL Players Association’s annual report card, a source with direct knowledge of the survey confirmed to The Baltimore Sun.
ESPN obtained the survey results for all 32 NFL teams on Thursday after the league won a complaint to stop the NFLPA from publishing them as it has in previous years.
The survey was based on responses from 1,759 players. Baltimore is ranked 12th overall, one spot higher than last year. The Miami Dolphins ranked first, the Minnesota Vikings second, and the Washington Commanders third.
Meanwhile, AFC North rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers ranked last, according to ESPN, for the first time in the four years the survey has been conducted, while the Cleveland Browns ranked 30th. The Cincinnati Bengals are ranked 24th.
The NFLPA did not make its report card public this year after the league claimed it violated its collective bargaining agreement. Earlier this month, an arbitrator agreed and said in his decision that the report card violated the CBA because it disparaged clubs and individuals. But the NFLPA continues to collect responses, even though it is not permitted to publish them.
Neither NFL nor NFLPA spokespeople immediately responded to messages seeking comment. A Ravens spokesman also did not respond.
However, Baltimore did well in many areas and improved over last year. Treatment of the family rose from C-plus to B-plus; the training room, which was overhauled, went from a B-minus to an A; training staff grade increased from B-minus to B; dietician/nutritionist went from B to A-minus; the grade for the weight room changed from a B-plus to an A, as did the grade for the strength coach; and owner Steve Bisciotti’s A grade in last year’s survey improved to A-plus.
The Ravens experienced a noticeable decline in one area, as the team’s road grade went from A-minus to B-minus.
They also remain the same in several other categories. Former coach John Harbaugh (now with the New York Giants) got a B, the same for food and dining, while the locker room again got a B-minus.
In several new categories, Baltimore also fared generally well.
General manager Eric DeCosta received an A-minus grade. Former offensive coordinator Todd Monken (now Browns coach) got a B-minus grade. Defensive coordinator Zach Orr (Seahawks inside linebackers coach) and special teams coordinator Chris Horton (same role with the Giants) each got a B-plus, while the position coaches received a B and the home ballpark got an A. M&T Bank Stadium is one of 15 NFL stadiums with a grass field.
New Ravens coach Jesse Minter received an A-plus grade in his previous role as defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. New offensive coordinator Declan Doyle earned an A-minus grade as the Chicago Bears’ OC. New defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver got an A in the same role for the Dolphins.
