With Significant GPU and CPU Performance Improvements, Unreal Engine 5.7 Is Another Step in the Right Direction


While Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen and Nanite redefined modern visuals, the engine made many gamers cringe due to its notoriously heavy system requirements. performance problems and stutteringwhich prevents many people from enjoying games that the machine supports properly, especially on PC.

However, since the engine’s launch, Epic has worked to mitigate these issues, and Unreal Engine 5.7 seems to be another step in the right direction.

In terms of performance on the RTX 5080 GPU, “GPU performance is improved by up to 25% in UE 5.7 (depending on the scene), and version 5.7 now makes better use of GPU resources, so GPU power consumption is now higher,” wrote the YouTuber.

CPU performance on the Intel Core i7-14700F improved significantly, by up to 35%, which, according to MxBenchmarkPC, led to “more stable frametimes with fewer hitches in all scenes.” This last improvement is very welcome, as the biggest problem in most games powered by Unreal Engine 5 is unstable frame times that lead to a choppy and very unpleasant experience.

Unreal Engine 5.7 also brings some image quality improvements, as MxBenchmarkPC highlighted in their analysis. “In terms of image quality, UE 5.7 offers more stable and accurate Lumen lighting, and especially higher quality Lumen reflections (with better performance at the same time).” Unfortunately, Lumen’s denoising qualities have only been slightly improved, so technologies like NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction still work better than the machine’s native solution.

While it will take a while to see games built to take advantage of the improvements introduced in Unreal Engine 5.7, the fact that Epic continues to address some of the engine’s most critical flaws is encouraging, and bodes well for the future. Hopefully, it won’t take long to finally see Unreal Engine 5 games running smoothly even on mid-range PC hardware.
