Wccftech’s Best DLC/Expansions of 2025

While 2025 doesn’t have as prominent DLC/expansion releases as 2024 did with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, that doesn’t mean 2025 provides little to no reason to return to older titles.

There are several expansions and DLC releases this year that offer exciting returns to great games, and Wccftech has selected five of this year’s releases as our Best DLC/Expansions of 2025.

Other Best Games of 2025 per Category: Fighting Games, Sports & Racing Games, Role-Playing Games

Lie P: Overture (8/10)

It’s no Shadow of the Erdtree, but Lies of P: Overture is one of the best DLC/expansions of 2025. Neowiz and Round8 Studio return to the Bloodborne-like Pinnochio games with a prequel that sets up the events of the main game and takes the series protagonists to the snow-covered Krats.

It doesn’t try to change or fix what isn’t broken in Lies of P, adding to the main game without taking anything away from the experience of playing it. It ramps up the difficulty massively, and adds to the inventive array of weapons available to players in the base game, and features some impressive boss fights.

As Francesco De Meo wrote in his review, “While it doesn’t add anything substantially new to the experience, the Lies of P: Overture expansion is a more than worthy expansion, providing an engaging story that digs deeper into the base game’s lore, featuring some of the best bosses in the entire game, and adding new weapons that can shake up the combat significantly. The lack of innovation and unfair difficulty may turn off some players, but anyone who loved every second of the base game will have no trouble falling all over again with one of the best Soulslikes in recent years..”

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – Mystery of the Church

This is a slightly mixed entry, as we’re including the rest of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s DLC in one entry, although we’re also specifically highlighting the third and final DLC, Mysteria Ecclesiae. These three DLCs are worth your time and worth checking out, especially considering the fact that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is already one of the best games of the year.

That’s already an impressive game for Warhorse Studios to deliver at the top of the year, and it’s even more impressive for the team to deliver three DLC expansions before the game even reaches its one-year anniversary. Mysteria Ecclesiae is the stunning culmination of the three DLCs, with an undeniably exciting detective story at play and challenging players to use their investigative skills.

Legacy of the Forge and Brushes with Death are also good DLC releases, but Mysteria Ecclesiae is the one that stands above the rest.

Kirby and the Forgotten Lands + Starry World

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a great outing for Kirby in 2022, so it’s great to know that we’ll be returning to the game this year with more than just graphical updates to look forward to as part of the Nintendo Switch 2’s arrival.

Star-Crossed World lets players revisit stages from the base game, but it’s not just a walk down memory lane. The newly introduced ‘Starryflowers’ unlocks entirely new versions of levels and adds a sense of excitement to revisiting each level for all the remixed ‘Starry Stages’.

As Nathan Birch wrote in their impression of Star-Crossed World, “Kirby and the Forgotten Lands + Starcrossed Worlds is the first Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade that I fully recommend. The game’s technical updates are excellent and the new Star-Crossed World content is inventive, fun and worth the $20 premium. Between this Switch 2 update and the upcoming Kirby Air Riders, fans of Nintendo’s pink puffball are in for a treat this year.“

Super Mario Party Jamboree + TV Jamboree

Another addition to the list stemming from the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 which prompted Nintendo to dig through the Switch game lineup and make additions, Super Mario Party Jamoboree + Jamboree TV adds a little more to what was already a pretty solid entry in the Mario Party franchise.

Minigames like the new Carnival Coaster mode really stand out throughout the game, and it’s a solid showcase of the new features coming with the Nintendo Switch 2, like the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. That said, other minigames that try to take advantage of the Switch 2’s new features, like the camera and microphone, are less successful, but still have their appeal.

As Nathan Birch wrote on Jamboree TV, “Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch Edition 2 + TV Jamboree is an interesting showcase of Nintendo’s latest hardware features, for better or worse. The Nintendo Switch 2’s camera feels like a style of play that would have been outdated a decade ago, but nearly all of the modes and minigames that rely on the Joy-Con 2’s mouse controls work fine. Nintendo’s asking price may be hard to justify for some, but if you’re looking for a single product that shows off all of the Switch 2’s unique capabilities, this multi-talented upgrade may be worth inviting.“

Sea of Stars: The Clockmaker’s Upheaval

Sometimes, expansions are an opportunity for developers to tweak or change things about the base game that might not resonate with players the first time around. That’s not necessarily the case with Throes of the Watchmaker, the free DLC for Sea of Stars in 2023. If you’ve never played Sea of Stars, it’s unlikely this DLC will convert you into a fan of the game.

But there’s actually nothing wrong with that, as Throes of the Watchmaker takes the best elements of Sea of Stars and adds a little more nuance to the game’s characters and combat system. It’s also another stunning display of pixel art that Sabotage Studios is capable of, and on top of that, it’s worth mentioning once again that this expansion is free for all players.

It’s an easy choice as one of the best DLCs of 2025, and if you already love Sea of Stars, Throes of the Watchmaker is a must-play game.

Honorable Mention

Of course, we couldn’t include every expansion in our top picks, so these are our honorable mentions.
