After being absent three years, the BMW championship returned to the Golf Caves Valley club which was changed in Owings Mills, with golfers competing to get a place in the top 30 from the Fedex Cup standings and an anchored place in the tour championship next week in Atlanta.
Robert Macintyre from Scotland put himself in a good position to get a trip.
The Thursday round was postponed for more than two hours due to rain but ended with Macintyre on the ranking board at 8-under par 62.

“I started with a bad start. A kind of uniting it a little in the middle of the round and scratching it back into Par.” he said. “When I crashed into a fairways, I gave myself a chance. I need to achieve more fairway in the next three days.”
Some golfers posted a strong round. Rickie Fowler fired 37 under 67 (tied to fourth), recovered from the initial two Bogeys with four Birdie in a five-holes.
Ben Griffin matches 67 Fowler. The 29 -year -old man, still struggling to get a place in the United States Ryder Cup team, playing with confidence in his opening round.
“I feel like I’m just trying to go there and prove to myself that I can compete in the playoffs, managed to reach the tour championship and have a good chance to win.” Said Griffin. “If everything is running, hopefully I will be in the team in September. I must feel like I am one of the best US players in the world.”
Jason Day from Australia draws cheers after sinking Birdie Putt as high as 20 feet in No. 14 to break a four-way tie and lead a solo-macintyre surge. Day is finished with 2-di below 68 (tied to the seventh) after the scourge of the last two holes.
Takoma Park Original Denny McCarthy shot even Par 70, placed him tied to the 15th. Teeing off shortly after the daytime, McCarthy finished with four birdie and replaced gloves several times to handle heat.
