August 1 – Records of 32 countries will start qualifications for the AFC U20 Asian Cup of Thailand 2026 next Wednesday, August 6.
First held in 2006, the U20 Women’s Championship is now in the 12th edition. 32 teams have been withdrawn into eight groups four and will play in a single round-robin centered format for places in the final 12 teams, and an increase from eight final teams in 2024 won by North Korea in Uzbekistan.
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Timor-Leste will make their qualification debut and this quartet. Along with 11 other countries – Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Republic of Kirgistan, Laos, Lebanon, North Mariana Islands, Palestine, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan – they will search to meet the requirements for the final for the first time.
Only four parties who have won the U20 Women’s Asian Cup with Japan have received six titles. South Korea and North Korea each won the championship twice while China won once. The four countries have appeared in every championship edition.
The qualifications began in Group E in China on Wednesday at the Yinchuan Helanshan Stadium between Lebanon and Cambodia. Then, China opened their campaign against Syrian newcomers.
The holders and world champions of North Korea competed in their first qualifiers, after automatically qualified for each previous final based on never finishing outside the top four. They started Group A against Saudi Arabia at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan. They were followed by host Bhutan against Nepal.
The Japan Open Group F regional giant against Guam at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Malaysia, with Iran, is looking for the second final qualification, then faces Malaysia.
The Vietnamese Youth Football Training Center Hanoi will hold a Group B match with the Republic of Kirgistan against Hong Kong, China, before Vietnam, aims to participate in the seventh final, playing Singapore who wants to reach the third final.
The Republic of South Korea starts group H against Timor-Leste at Laos National Stadium KM16 in Vientiane. It will be followed by Bangladesh and Laos.
In Yangon, Myanmar Kick-off Group D at the Thuwunna Stadium against Turkmenistan. The second match saw India, which aims to advance to the fourth final.
Jordan, playing in their 10th qualifiers, Open Group G at the Do’stlik Tashkent Stadium, against the North Mariana Islands, before Uzbekistan faced Bahrain.
The opening match ended with Group C at the Central Stadium of the Republic in Dushanbe, with Taipei China and Palestine playing before Australia faced host Tajikistan.
