Nintendo Switch 2 Title Launching of First Party does not use NVIDIA DLSS, possibly due to the limitations of machines that will require a lot of work to be implemented.
Speaking during their weekly podcast, technology experts at the Digital Foundry commented on why the title of the launch of the first party of Nintendo Switch 2 such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza did not use NVIDIA DLSS, choosing, as in the new entry in the Donkey Kong series, for the Lower AMD FSR 1 solution. Although it is impossible to make a definite statement, the Digital Foundry believes there may be some limitations of the machine behind this, because the machine that gives power to this game, for example, does not support mobile vectors, which are needed by NVIDIA DLSS. Without the support of the machine, applying an upscaler will require a lot of work, which may not want to do Nintendo for any reason.
Technical restrictions, however, may not be the only reason why the title of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 First Party does not use NVIDIA DLSS, because the direction of art may also play a role in this matter. Nintendo games usually have cartoon visuals that do not display complex shapes or patterns, so even if the ends are not smooth, they are also not terrible, reduce the need for antialing and improvement. Mario Kart World is a perfect example of this, because the game looks great even without them.
Even so, there is a good opportunity that even the title of the first party will eventually use NVIDIA DLSS. After all, not only the upscaler mentioned in the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, but Japanese companies actively work with NVIDIA to have the hardware needed to use upscalers in the system, so they clearly see their value. Hopefully, it doesn’t take long for them to use it, as a game like Donkey Kong Bananza mentioned above clearly benefit from it, given the quality of the image delivered with FSR 1.
NVIDIA DLSS is just one of the features that makes Nintendo Switch 2 separate from its predecessor. You can learn more about system offers by reading Chris’s review.
