Sometimes, the most meaningful journey of life starts with simple and unplanned steps. For me, everything starts with the leaflets that I encountered while tracing social media. At that time, I didn’t know what Rotaract was. However, I was always excited about community service, and something about the leaflet forced me to apply. Only a few days later, I was welcomed as a member for the term Rotaract 2022-23. Looking back, I realized that what looked like spontaneous decision was one of the most transformative experiences in my life.

I don’t know anyone at the club. I have no understanding of how things work. However, regardless of this uncertainty, I found myself volunteering for my first project—Think aboutUnder the Community Service Avenue. This is my first Rotaract experience in the action. It pushed me beyond my comfort zone, introduced me to new faces, and created eternal memories that I continued to appreciate. It not only introduced me to the essence of Rotaract but also offers me to feel the goals, ownership, and community of peers who think the same. The relationship was formed and the experience gained during the project was still standing as some of the most appreciated.

Even though my contribution in the first year was small, something inside me shifted. I know I have more to give. I don’t just want to take part; I want to lead, make a real difference, and leave something meaningful. So, I decided to apply for the Board of Directors for the next period. What’s surprising and excitement, I was chosen as one of the co-traps of the Avenue Community Service for 2023-24.

That’s when everything really started to live for me. I have extraordinary privileges to work with two extraordinary souls, RTR. Dimithri Premarathna and RTR. Wickshi Kalani. They are not only co-sutradara-they become mentors, friends, and sources of strength that are constant throughout the trip. With their unwavering support and shared desires that we pour into every step, we can turn on two projects that will forever hold a special place in my heart: Swabhasamudra And Ignite Sri Lanka.

This is not just a project-they are experiences that change life. They took me from the northern end of Jaffna to the south coast, and among them, I met people whose stories were very touching me. Every interaction reminds me how different we are. Their strength, their resilience, and their warmth left the eternal impact on me. There is no classroom that can teach me what this trip did. I learned to really listen, feel, lead with empathy, and understand calm power to unite for greater purposes than ourselves.

During the same term, I also had the opportunity to guide a project close to my heart—Heravumwhich is recognized as the most popular project in Rota Tomorrow 4.0 and receives more awards. I was very honored to have been named the first runner-up for the best mentor.

Then came the last chapter from my Rotaract story. For the term 2024-25, I was appointed as a sergeant-at-Arms of the Club. It was a role that came with great responsibilities – supporting club administration with more than 650 members, ensuring discipline, and upholding the standards that we have done very hard. It teaches me patience, professionalism, and structural values ​​in the organization that is enthusiastic and moving quickly. More importantly, it shows me how much I have grown from the first year of a wide-eyed year to someone who is trusted to protect the club’s spirit.

I strongly believe that racuok has its own miracle in shaping people and adding value to their lives. For me, magic will not feel special if it wasn’t for two extraordinary people – RTR. Rosan Rathnayake, President for the term 2023-24 and RTR. Vihanga Divyanjana, President for the term 2024-25. The leadership, warmth, and support of their uncomfortable make this trip much more meaningful, and I am really grateful to have walked on this road with them as a guide light.

When I pondered this trip, I was filled with extraordinary gratitude. Starting as a general member, grew into a director, and ended as a sergeant-at-ARMS, I had experienced every emotions or excitement and excitement to arrogance and satisfaction. I have the honor of working with enthusiastic young people who continue to remind me of the good in the world. Together, we created change, inspired others, and grew up to be a leader that we had respected.

Rotaract is not just part of my university’s life, it is part of me. Opportunities, friendship, challenges, laughter, long days, and night without sleep – all have shaped who I am now. Little girl who once wanted to serve the community has now underwent that dream and many more.

When this chapter ended, I continued not only memories, but a deeper understanding of leadership, empathy, and service. I am very proud of everything we achieved and very grateful for the opportunity to be part of an organization that has left an eternal trail in my life.
