Advanced Micro Devices Chip Designer, Inc. (AMD) posted a mixed income bag today because EPS missed the estimated analyst while the income above it. AMD reported revenues of $ 7.6 billion and $ 0.48 in EPS, while analysts have written $ 7.4 billion and $ 0.49. Most importantly, however, the company’s guidelines are $ 8.4 billion to $ 9 billion for the estimated quarter analyst at this time of $ 8.3 billion, but it is not enough to stem a decline in stock prices of 4.2% in aftermarket trade after the income report reaches cables.
AMD posting operating losses in Q2 due to high costs of goods sold bite to company margins
The core of the AMD revenue report lies in the income statement, which witnesses the cost of the company’s goods for sale leap with 59% per year. However, AMD’s revenue over the same time period grew by 32%, with a large difference that leads to the company’s gross margin down by nine points of percentage each year. The higher cost flows along the income statement and causes operational losses of $ 134 million for the company in the second quarter. AMD has posted $ 259 million in operating income in last year’s quarter and $ 806 million which was much stronger in the March quarter.
However, AMD did change the operating profit after reconciling the income statement to the non-GAAP number. Non-GAAP operating profit sits at $ 897 million but still marks an annual decline in 29%. In sequence, the decline was even steeper because it sat in 50%, which effectively reduced the AMD operating income in the previous quarter.
In the note section of its revenue release, AMD explained that non-gaap steps allow comparisons of performance in the entire reporting period consistently with “not including items that are not believed to be an indication of its core operating performance and for other reasons described in the footnotes to the selected data table.”
However, the company added that the non-GAAP number “must be seen other than and not as a substitute or superior to the reported results that AMD prepared in accordance with GAAP.”
While AMD did report the loss of GAAP operations, the company’s revenue of $ 7.7 billion marked an annual growth of 32% to establish a new record. Non-GAAP dirty margin, which dropped ten points the percentage to 43% was “because the inventory of $ 800 million and related costs associated with restrictions on US export control on MI308 instinct products,” said the company.
AMD added that: “Not including this load, non-gaap dirty margins ‘will ~ 54%do not include this cost, non-gaap dirty margins’ will be ~ 54%.” Dirty margin is the percentage of post-permission cost revenue for the company for total sales.
The company also linked a decrease in operating income to “inventory and related costs related to US export control restrictions.” However, AMD does not share what operating income if it is not due to restrictions on export control, or whether it will record operating profit. The company, like a bigger rival Nvidia, scored a previous victory when Trump’s government allowed him to sell AI Mi308 chips to China.
For the current quarter, AMD expects revenue to sit at $ 8.7 billion with 50%dirty margin. The company’s shares extend their losses to 4.8% in aftermarket trade before making several profits and fell 3.8% at 16:45 east time.
