Manchester United beat PAOK Athens 2-0 in the Europa League match at Old Trafford on Thursday, November 7. They then beat Leicester City 3-0 in the Premier League match. United went on to win three of their four games under caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. Even so, Manchester United’s improvement is very important.

Amad Diallo started for the Red Devils after appearing as a substitute in six consecutive matches, scoring twice to win his team’s match against PAOK Athens. Manchester United seems to be playing much better since Erik ten Hag was sacked as manager.

Diallo has staked a claim to start for Manchester United

United dropped Marcus Rashford to the bench for the match against PAOK. Amad started on the right wing and Alejandro Garnacho on the left. The Red Devils have been playing with several left wingers in their team for some time now.

Both Rashford and Garnacho prefer to play on the left wing, but Garnacho has been forced to play on the right wing in several games this season. Therefore, if we take Amad into account, there are three players competing for two places in United’s attack.

Another solution for Manchester United would be to field Rashford as a centre-forward instead of Rasmus Højlund, who has only scored a handful of goals in 11 games so far this season. Dropping Hojlund would dent the Danish striker’s confidence, but it appears to be the right choice for United at the moment. Rashford prefers to play on the left side, but considering the current scenario, he may have to play as a center forward for Amad to start.

Rashford and Garnacho have scored four and six goals respectively for their clubs this season so far. Therefore, it may not be a wise move to reserve any of them. Garnacho may be slightly more effective on the left than Rashford and therefore, may be worthy of being United’s first choice left winger. He started against Leicester and may have to continue starting on the right wing for Manchester United in future games.

The goals obtained were not easy for the Red Devils. Therefore, they should try to make maximum use of available resources. According to Ruud Van Nilsteroy, dropping Amad would be the right step in that direction.

The Red Devils will likely have a smooth rest of November

United will face Ipswich Town and Everton in their next two Premier League games this month. The Red Devils will then face old rivals Arsenal in the first week of December, which will be a tough test for them.

Rúben Amorim will take charge of Manchester United before the match against Ipswich. During the international break, the Portuguese manager will have time to explore the alternatives available to him when selecting his starting XI.

It remains to be seen whether Amorim decides to give Amad a chance to play in the first few games after taking over. The 22-year-old Ivorian winger may have done enough to stake his claim.
