The Preakness Festival will be led by a city central concert featuring DJ D-Nice and BSO

The city central concert May 14, led by DJ D-Nice & Friends and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will be anchored for a week’s preakness festival, imagined by Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott as a means to attract attention, and pay customers, to one of Maryland’s signatures.

This festival, which will begin May 10 with a free art showcase that celebrates Park Heights, will also feature a May 11 tour at Maryland Horse Farms, a May 12 Ticket Golf Tournament at Baltimore Country Club in Timonium and a May 15 fundraising gala at Annapolis to support community initiatives.

Maryland First Lady Dawn Moore, who has helped lead the plan for this festival, said this “is not just about respecting the multi -storey tradition, this is about building an inclusive future.”

“For this to be a Maryland decade, it must be time for Baltimore – and the first preakness festival is one of the ways we make it happen,” Governor Wes Moore said in a statement.

The festival, with a ticket concert is scheduled for May 14 at Pier Six Pavilion, is a new plan for the second jewel from Triple Crown, which will be run for -150 this May. After the race, the bulldozer will move in to destroy the dilapidated path when the country moves forward with a plan of $ 400 million to rebuild Pimlico and make it, along with a new training center at Woodbine, the Race Industry Headquarters in Maryland. State officials and industries hope that renewed Pimlico will be ready to host preakness again in 2027 after the race is run in Laurel Park in 2026.

Governor and Scott announced plans for a new festival in December, said that preakness must be a time for Baltimore to “show off,” as Kentucky did ahead of the Kentucky Derby. The governor said his wife began to encourage the preakness celebration which was reorganized after the couple visited Kentucky Derby two years ago.

In the early December presentation, officials planned this new festival noted how the preakness lag behind the derby on economic impact. They said the derby produced an economic impact of $ 396 million for Kentucky in 2023 while the latest study of preakness showed that it produced only $ 41 million for Maryland.

Over the years, preakness provides economic ballast for all state racing industries but has lost money in recent years, with a crowd reduced from an average of more than 100,000 in the decade before Pandemi Coronavirus to 63,423 on Friday and Saturday last May, and the cost of ordering concert headliners such as Bruno Mars and Jack Harlow.

The Stronach Group, who has a preakness despite selling Pimlico to the state last year, will still operate the race and accompany entertainment in place in 2025
