Nike renews Brazil jersey contract through 2038 with $100M+ annual deal

December 10 – In 1996, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) and Nike team up to form a partnership reportedly worth $35 million per year. On Friday a new deal was announced, and times have changed!

The new contract between the five-time World Champion and the sportswear giant is now worth $100 million per year.

The agreement, which extends their partnership until 2038, also includes royalties from sales of the iconic yellow and green national team shirts, a new element not included in the previous contract. It is estimated that with these royalties, the annual value could reach $120 million.

The previous agreement was due to expire in 2026, but both parties want to extend the collaboration even though Seleção Canarinho has only won one World title this century, in 2002 at the South Korea/Japan World Cup.

“This contract shows the power of Brazilian football,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues.

“This is one of the longest and most successful partnerships in football and, together, we will continue to celebrate the brilliance of Brazilian football and honor the legacy of jogo bonito.”

Doug Bowles, Nike’s vice president for Latin America, said the deal “reinforces our long-standing commitment to Brazilian soccer.”

Nike uniforms are worn by Brazilian men’s and women’s teams of all ages, plus beach soccer and futsal teams.

The partnership between the two also produced memorable moments off the pitch, including one of the best football adverts of all time before the 1998 World Cup. See:

Whether Nike can profit from this deal will depend on results on the pitch, and with Brazil in an all-time slump (currently 5th in the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers), the company known for ‘Just Do It’ hopes that Brazil can live up to the company’s motto.
