The term “Arm Care” is thrown around as if it is a simple matter. Do some band practice and you’ll be good!! This is actually a very loaded term and requires much deeper explanation and planning. If you’re serious about your team’s game, pitching, and arm, then it’s time to get serious about it all.
ARM CARE is…
• Understand and develop proper pitching/throwing mechanics.
• Preseason pitching plan.
• Development of pre-season/early season field counts.
• Overall body strength.
• Nutrition
• Every week between games throwing routine.
• Listen to your arms.
• Get to know your body.
• Did not pitch due to lower body injury.
• Post-throwing arm maintenance/recovery routine.
• Knowing what an arm is conditioned for aka how many throws an arm is ready to throw that day.
• Know what the signs of fatigue look like and how to diagnose arm pain.
• Do not rush back to competitive throwing after an arm injury.
• Weekly bullpen to get better at command and other things to compete better which means throwing more at-bats which means likely throwing fewer pitches per inning.
• Becoming mentally tougher which means being a better competitor which means being able to get more results with fewer throws.
The band’s work is great but there is MUCH more to it than that. We have an entire page on our site dedicated to this topic. Check us out “Save Our Guns” page.
**Side note, the straps on the bottom of your bag don’t help.
